２１世紀も間近に迫っておりますが，我が国をとりまく国際情勢の変化も著しく，また我が国が世界に果たすべき役割もますます多様かつ重要になっております．すでに，ご存知のごとく，スポーツは世界的な規模で行なわれる現代文化の代表的な領域に成長し，国際政治・経済・生活の諸地域にも影響するようになっております．それは，何よりもスポーツに対する民衆の支持が，国境を越えて広がっているゆえであります．そして，現代はスポーツ外交の時代でもあるといえましょう．すなわち，代表選手による外交から，幅広いスポーツ参加者層による民衆外交の場へと発展しています．

さて，国内の現状をみますと，われわれはいま産業構造の大変化を経験しており，また未曾有の高齢化社会へと向かっております．そこでは，様々なストレスを与える変化への適応が要求されることでありましょう．そしてその変化のストレスを克服して，高齢においてもなおフレキシブルな身体と頭脳を維持し，活躍することが要求されるでありましょう．

２１世紀へかけてこのような国際的・国内的情勢を考えるとき，ゴルフという独自な特性をもったスポーツ文化が，時代の要求に応える豊かな可能性を含んでいることに気づかれることと思います．すなわち，国際的な種目であり，少年から高齢者まで，そして男女ともに参加でき，精神と身体の統合を必要とする種目であること，健康の維持発展に可能性を含んでいることなどでもあります．これらの豊かな可能性を確実な実りとするためには，単なる経験では様々な弊害を生じるでありましょうし，従来の恒例に従っているだけではなく，学問による裏付けが必要であります．そこで諸科学協力しての，ゴルフに関する科学情報の創造発展と交流が必要と考えられます．

幸いにして，我が国には，ゴルフを愛好する研究者や技術者，さらには教養人が数知れずおりますし，また，高学歴社会ゆえに，ゴルフの実力が高くしかも科学を理解する能力を持つ多数の人々がおります．ここには，我が国が世界に先駆けて，ゴルフ学会を設立するに十分な可能性と裏付けがあります．さらには，『日本ゴルフ学会』が核となって，世界的な学問的組織ヘと発展していく可能性もあると確信しております．いまや，人文・社会・自然・天学・教育学その他にわたる開放系の学際科学の焦点として，ゴルフをとりあげるゴルフ学会が提案されるべき時であると考え，多方面にわたるゴルフ愛好者の皆さまのご入会を期待しています．

USGTFにはアマチュア部門（Amateur Division）が設けられています。アマチュア部門の会員はゴルフ指導とトーナメントの参加に際して金銭的な報酬を受けないなどの『ゴルフ規則』に則り、アマチュア資格を維持することができます。

USGTFの会員となるには、アメリカ各地ならびに日本で開催される５〜７日間の講習と認定試験を受け、所定の基準を満たす必要があります。会員には機関誌「Golf Teaching Pro®」（年2回発刊、邦訳記事を配布）、ホームページなどを通じて、アメリカにおける最新のゴルフ指導情報を提供します。

＜USGTFの組織＞
1989年にアメリカで設立されたUSGTFはゴルフの指導を職業とする人々の訓練と教育方法を世界規模で標準化し，資格認定制度を実施してきました。全世界の42カ国に2万5千人の会員を持つUSGTFはUSPGAと並んでアメリカのティーチング業界を二分し，ゴルフの指導を専業とする認定組織としては世界最大の組織となっています。

Strategy to accomplish its mission:

Cooperate and partner with the appropriate divisions of federal, state and local governments to promote the turfgrass industry and its interests and to engage appropriate divisions of federal, state and local governments in (1) meaningful dialog regarding the goals and needs of the turfgrass industry, (2) legislative and regulatory initiatives that benefit the turfgrass industry, and (3) the importance of funding for and implementation of the National Turfgrass Research Initiative.
